The home sits as a monolithic focal point atop a small rise, backing onto a large stand of old growth trees carved with secret pathways. To its west lies a manicured orchard, perfected over decades of care. With its unapologetic juxtapositions of commercial steel and unpainted wood-spans this house looks clearly unique within its small Island community.
Overall the interior space centres on airy open living, inviting harmony through its uncluttered simplicity. Seamlessly, the indoors and outdoors intertwine through large, clear segments of glazing.
The ultra-modern design offers 2″ polished concrete floors with in-floor radiant heat, 9 to 14 foot ceilings and MSR SPF dimensional lumber double-stud interior walls. A large kitchen with Beech butcher-block counters integrates naturally with the living space and beyond to the outdoors. 342 square feet of covered tight-knot Western Red Cedar decks (bounded by both siding and soffit of clear Western Red Cedar) enjoy the views. One guest/in-law suite plus one self-contained suite create independent areas separated by 8’ solid-core interior doors. On the exterior, dark grey and white 24-gauge commercial steel combine with clear Penofin-oiled Western Red Cedar siding all backed by a 1” rain screen.
Of the highest quality, the home boasts triple pane Larch-framed/aluminum exterior-clad tilt/turn windows and doors, a Viessmann high-efficiency on-demand gas boiler for both heat and domestic hot water, vanEE whole-house HRV system and dual flush wall hung toilets. The home’s MSR SPF dimensional lumber double-stud exterior wall system affords 60% more insulating (R36) than a standard house.
